Applying Knowledge
Profound personal, organizational and societal achievements are based on knowledge. Failure to live up to one’s potential is often based on failure to apply readily available knowledge. In other words, one knew better or should have known better.
Some people value knowledge more than others. For instance, there are heads of state who, while personally enjoying the benefits of science, enact policies based on patently false beliefs; some of them disseminate information known to be false. In contrast, there are people who read widely, think deeply, and do their best to act in accordance with knowledge. To better understand this distinction, read Keith Stanovich’s excellent book, What intelligence tests miss: The psychology of rational thought.
Knowledge is plentiful. Yet it can be difficult to understand and apply.
We develop products for people who wish to act in accordance with knowledge. Our products are based on papers and two books written by one of our co-founders, Luc P. Beaudoin. The books describe the challenges we face in using knowledge, important properties of the human mind, and ways to overcome those challenges.
Bending the Universe with Integrative Cognitive Science
We’ve identified several important problems people have that can be solved by extending and applying cognitive science.
We intend to significantly improve the way millions of people address these problems.
We develop simple, beautiful, effective products based on integrative cognitive science — the modern science of the human mind. By “integrative” we mean to emphasize that we are not merely concerned with traditionally cognitive (“dry”) information processing, but also with motivation, affect (“emotions”, “moods”, etc.), self-regulation and all kinds of ancillary functions (such as sleep).
We use cognitive science to build simple, beautiful, psychologically potent apps that help you be more effective.
To put it differently, our products are designed to help you take control of the mechanisms of your mind.
Sleep is essential to cognitive productivity. Our first app, mySleepButton®, is designed to help you fall asleep (or get back to sleep). It demonstrates the concept of CogSci Apps.
Our second app, Hookmark, is designed to help you stay in flow as you work on your Mac. It enables you to avoid searching and to rapidly re-access information that is pertinent to your current task.

Gratitude
We are fortunate to live in an era in which there is so much high-caliber, useful knowledge, and to be in a position to help people apply knowledge.
